Founder & President

Kathy Troxell is co-founder and President of Turning Point Financial. In 1994, she and Tom Pignone opened a small firm to help local clients with retirement planning. Over the years, the firm grew to include a robust team of professionals and a wide variety of services to help people in all phases of their financial life.

She started her career working as Vice President (Marketing) for a Trust company specializing in institutional retirement products and qualified plans that were used by financial advisors nationwide. She quickly learned that her strength was in helping people address questions or problems and helping them identify simple solutions. Both Tom and Kathy were committed to speaking plainly, bringing GOOD to situations wherever possible, striving for excellence, and giving back to those in need.

This seed of an idea has also taken root in the company as each team member brings their professional and personal best to their work. The entire culture strives to live out the company values that are based on this commitment to become “an engine for good”.

In addition to managing her practice full time, she is married to a career DC Fire Captain, a mother of 3 adult children and 1 almost adult (high school) daughter. She is known as “Mimi” to 4 little ones as of this posting 😊. She is on the leadership team of Encounter DC Ministries and is involved in numerous activities that focus on materially and/or spiritually vulnerable neighbors – both locally and across the globe.

She received her Bachelor’s degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and earned additional industry designations through American College.
