Kathy Troxell is the Co-Founder and CEO of Turning Point Financial. She and co-founder Tom Pignone established the firm in 1994 with a focus on delivering retirement income strategies and comprehensive wealth-management guidance to local clients. Since then, the firm has evolved into a fully integrated wealth management organization, offering discretionary investment management solutions, tax and accounting services, and advanced financial planning – all designed to provide coordinated, multi-disciplinary solutions for families and business owners. Kathy is the sole equity owner of Turning Point Financial. She is also a joint owner, with her son, Brennan, of Turning Point Insurance and 2 Talents, LLC—a commercial real estate holding company. Brennan also serves as a Senior Wealth Management Advisor and Vice President for Turning Point Financial and contributes to the firm’s strategic planning and mission focused initiatives.
Kathy’s career path started when she worked as Marketing Vice President of a local Trust company that specialized in institutional retirement products and qualified plans. She quickly learned that her strength was in communicating complex financial strategies to individuals and business owners in an understandable manner. From the beginning, Tom and Kathy set a cultural direction committed to speaking plainly, bringing GOOD to situations wherever possible, striving for excellence, and prioritizing generosity and charity.
The company’s early commitment to charitable work has grown into a deeply rooted culture of service. Today, team members bring both their professional expertise and personal passion to initiatives that improve the lives of others. This spirit aligns with the organization’s core belief in using financial services as ‘a financial engine for good.’
Alongside managing her practice full time, she is married to a busy, retired D.C. Fire Captain, is the mother of four adult children, and is joyfully known as ‘Mimi’ to six little ones (as of this writing). She also serves as Board President for Mercy Center Foundation, U.S.A., which supports a vibrant Kenyan community by providing education and training to at-risk high school girls. With the U.S. collaboration, the initial Kenyan school has grown into a full ecosystem of agribusinesses and sports programs—each dedicated to enriching the lives of students, employees, and the broader community.
She was also a founding member of the Encounter DC Ministries School leadership team here at home. Her work is fueled by a passion to love others as Christ loved us—especially by serving those who are materially and spiritually vulnerable.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and has completed additional industry designations through The American College.
